The Struggle Continues

Ring Road Red Revolution

For day three of the indefinite general strike, eighteen processions of 20,000+ each marched outward from the city center to the Ring Road that circles Kathmandu. Former two bands, protesters completely circled the 28 kilometer highway in an overwhelming show of strength. At dusk, Maoist leaders including Prachanda, Kiran and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai drove the length of the road. Cheers rose at their arrival like ripples in water. The Maoists have laid siege to the center of power in Nepal without violence, though for day four they have moved to a more "aggressive" course of action, blockading the central government ministries from 4:00 a.m.

"Ring road red revolution," one man said. "That is our new slogan."
